2008, 24min Double projection

“Brothers” (2008), which established to a certain degree my attitude to local art and culture, activates the Other and the marginal (the cats) within the historical field of the culture of the Zionist death ritual. The work is a video installation composed of two screenings. One shows the methodical collection of the run-over cat corpses and their embalming in cement. The other presents the construction of the monument/mass grave from these cats in a remote desert location. The figure of the hero who gave his life for a worthy cause and in honor of whom monuments are erected is replaced with the cat corpses, which are randomly scattered, exposed at the edge of the road. In this way, I examine the consensus and aim to emphasize the gaps between the central and the marginal and between the mythic and the real.
